Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine

At UPMC Sports Medicine, our multidisciplinary team of surgeons, physicians, and researchers are dedicated to preventing and treating sports-related injuries and illnesses. This includes our world-renowned UPMC Sports Medicine Concussion Program, which uses cutting-edge, science-based rehab methods to speed recovery and restore function
Neurology and Neurosurgery
The UPMC Neurological Institute, the largest academic neurosurgery department in the United States, has received national and international recognition for minimally invasive neurosurgery and stroke treatment. Our team at the Institute, which is comprised of the UPMC Department of Neurology and UPMC Department of Neurosurgery, works together to offer new hope to patients with complex brain, skull base, and spine disorders.

UPMC Transplant Services is a world leader in organ transplantation, having performed thousands of surgical procedures since it’s founding in 1981, including the most Living-Donor Liver Transplants in the United States. We treat many patients with complex cases, even some who have been turned away by other hospitals.
Our commitment to advancing basic science and clinically applied research has expanded to include the creation of the UPMC Immune Transplant and Therapy Center – an ambitious think-tank aimed at researching how disease can be treated by the body’s own immune cells.
A recognized leader in the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases and disorders, the mission of the UPMC Eye Center is to improve patients’ quality of life through vision preservation and restoration. Under the leadership of José-Alain Sahel, MD, one of the world’s top experts in retinal diseases and vision restoration, UPMC provides groundbreaking research to find new ways to prevent, diagnose, and treat eye disorders and diseases as well as to preserve healthy vision. The UPMC Vision Institute, scheduled to open in Pittsburgh in the spring of 2023, will be a leading center focused on the cornea, retina, optic nerve, glaucoma, neuro-ophthalmology, and orbital disorders.
